Let Them Go
It’s hard. You want them to stay. You can’t believe they are leaving. I totally get it. But when a senior leader gives you their notice, Let. Them. Go. I promise if you don’t you’ll regret it later. Two things will happen if you talk them into staying:
They will ultimately leave anyway.
They will become a less valuable leader because they don’t want to be there.
They were going to leave. I get it, it’s hard to accept. You take it personally. After everything you did for them, this is how they thank you? You’re pissed. But keeping them isn’t going to change any of that. You’ll think about it, almost every day. “I can’t believe they almost quit me.” And they’ll be thinking, every day, “I probably should have left.”
